114: Setting Intentions and Leveling Up Your Art Career
/

On this special episode to kick of 2022 I speak with Isadora Stowe, an artist/mother and academic who lives and works in Las Cruces, NM, USA. Isadora is my co-conspirator in supporting women artists with resources for making the professional practice side of their art career successful! We run a course, Wearing All the Hats (Without Losing Your Head) which delves into weekly topics and helps artists figure out the best path of action for creating an art career that fits their unique values and vision.

Isadora and I discuss our feelings on “New Years” and how we are approaching this opportunity to re-set and go inward at the beginning of 2022. We share a few of our goals and dreams for this upcoming 12 months and reflect on our word for the year, my chosen word being “space” and Isadora’s being “nourishment”.

For the second half of the podcast we are joined by two incredible artists who are alumni of our course. Meet Jean Gray Mohs and Aparajita Jain Mahajan! Jean Gray is an abstract, narrative artist based in Raleigh, NC.  Drawing from her own personal experience, she creates vibrant wooden objects that explore transplant, disease, and the body’s tenacity. Aparajita is an abstract mixed media artist using inherited textile and thread, painting and drawing to explore the interaction between seen and unseen forms and energies. Both of these incredible women experienced growth and transformation and I wanted to have them share their journeys with you! With a little space and intention placed on getting our art careers polished up and organized, we can really level up our practices and feel so much better about the way we are presenting ourselves to the world!

Ultimately, this conversation is about the power of community and about artist’s really identifying with their own unique path. Every artists really gets to decide what their life and career looks like and Isadora and I try to support the artists in our course to clarify their authentic vision and goals. We would love to start out 2022 working with you in this way! Consider signing up for Wearing All the Hats before 1/20/22!
