This episode features a wonderful discussion with artist Jessica Caldas ranging from topics around the lifestyle of an artist to setting boundaries in both personal and professional settings. Jessica works across mediums in painting, drawing, printmaking, soft sculpture, and splits her time between Atlanta and North Central Florida. She runs Good News Arts, a community art space and gallery in Florida. Jessica’s work is rooted in narratives that typically focus on the experiences of women and social issues related to the body.

In this talk, I really appreciated learning about Jessica’s nomadic lifestyle, and exactly how she manages splitting her time between Florida and Atlanta to make the most of her needs as an artist alongside the practical limitations that come with raising her daughter. We discuss how we think about the limits of language as it relates to gender and caregiving, and how we can be mindful about how language impacts the inclusivity of our discourses and community spaces.
