155: Systems of Support with Caitlin Winner

As artists, we all know that moment of noticing something in our daily life that is worthwhile to pursue in our work. But what does it take to get from the moment of noticing to a final piece? In my conversation with Caitlin Winner, we discuss how she goes from the act of noticing through a painstaking process that results in monumental, narrative oil paintings of everyday moments.

In our talk, Caitlin shares how she progressed from studying and pursuing painting as a hobby, to developing a unique style and voice all her own. We peel back the layers to discuss what supports her ability to make work and how her work allows her to process her experiences. The conversation reminds me how very important a community is in raising children and supporting creative practices, and how these creative practices can in turn reflect back important themes for the broader culture. Caitlin is based in New York and her work has been featured in Artist Magazine and Studio Visit Magazine. She was a 2022 recipient of the Martha Boschen Porter Fund.
