I’m so grateful to share this episode with you and for the work that Artist/Mother/Writer Catherine Ricketts is doing! Catherine is the author of the book The Mother Artist: Portraits of Ambition, Limitation, and Creativity.

In this conversation with Catherine I learn why she felt like this book was one she needed to write. We discuss her deep interest in artist parents and the unique perspective she thinks they bring to the world. Catherine recognizes like so many of us how few artist mothers make it into museums and “the canon” of major art collections and art histories throughout the world. Her book brings readers into the moment of many beloved artists like Ruth Asawa, Madeline Donahue, LaToya Hobbs, Joan Didion and more.

I also ask Catherine how she chose the artists she did for her book and to share some tips for artists who want to be written about or have their work featured in established publications.

This is a great episode full of inspiration and practical advice! Buy the book and learn more about Catherine Ricketts on her website or her instagram.
