17: Investing in your art career before you get a return with Lee Nowell-Wilson
/

This episode is rich with thoughtful encouragement as I chat with Artist/Mother Lee Nowell-Wilson about her work and life. Lee talks about the reality of an art career- how it can feel like a long journey of investing before you ever see a return. She shares candidly about her experience with rejection, how she makes decisions about what to pursue and how she changed her medium and studio practices to accommodate having a baby and toddler. Lee shares a much needed reminder with us too- that we need to be checking in on our priorities and reminding ourselves that we are more than our ‘artist identity’.

Lee earned her BFA from painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art, and her work has been exhibited in Italy, France and many cities across the United States. In 2018 she had a solo show at Project 1628. Currently her work consists of painting, drawing and installations that investigate the maternal experience. Lee is the mother to two sweet little girls and she lives with her family in Baltimore, MD.

You can find more about Lee and see more of her work on her website (https://www.leenowellwilson.com) and Instagram (@leenowellwilson ). She is currently working on releasing a print publication featuring visual art and photography based on the maternal form- check it out @milkedmag
